Sophie McIntyre of Club Sup

Sophie McIntyre founded Club Sup back in 2021, and with a mission to “make new friends over supper and taking connection “offline”,” you might ask, what does social media have to do with it?

Well, as Sophie discusses, social media is an important tool in Club Sup’s marketing mix.

The proof is in the pudding: fast-forward to 2024, and Club Sup hosted over 100 suppers and events across Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, bringing together well over 1,000 people

What social media channel is the most impactful for Club Sup and why?

Instagram, for sure. Instagram is where we have our largest following that we grew through (mostly) organic reach, which now I think about it, it is pretty cool. Instagram is where we post new events and really talk to the community.

How do you connect with your community on social media?

Club Sup is pretty offline, if I’m honest. Majority of the connection happens in our events, but when we do connect on social media, its usually through the question function or DMs. I’m loving using social channels at the moment – I feel like that is where I can learn the most about our community.

In your experience, what is the biggest pro and biggest con when it comes to social media efforts?

A pro is that we can get the word out about the club. A con is that for a business that is pretty much only offline, we have to work really hard online to get people offline.

What is a mistake or misstep that you have made on social media and what lesson did it teach you?

I think the one mistake that I made in the early days was not posting enough and not putting myself on the Sup Club Instagram account. In the time since, I’ve found that people really want to know about the person behind the brand. In hindsight, I wish I had put myself out there earlier.

What has been a standout moment or milestone for Club Sup on social media?

We had some great media coverage last year and that was really successful for our social following – it grew our Instagram  following by 2,500 organically within a week.

Also, this last year has been amazing. This time last year we had only 6,500 followers and now we have just reached 20,000 on Instagram!

How do you measure your social media success?

High engagement, for sure. We might not have many followers, however as long as they’re engaged, that’s success.

Looking forward, what does the future hold for Club Sup when it comes to social media activity and efforts?

More posting and more of a solid look and feel. We’re entering our fourth year of business and it’s time we take it to the next level!
